Chairman, Sam Hood

Hi, I co-founded LHSC because I wanted to create the club I always wanted to join. A club for younger people (which I was when I had this idea) to come and enjoy shooting historic rifles in a relaxed environment. Historic rifle shooting is what I’ve always enjoyed most since I started shooting when I was 15 and I want other people with this interest to have a place to enjoy it too.

I have a wide and extensive knowledge/interest in historic rifles and also enjoy loading the ammunition for my own rifles. If you ever have any questions about rifles, reloading, UK firearms law and licenses, etc I’ll be happy to answer them. As club chairman, I’m also in charge of safety so always feel free to ask me questions about this too. No question about safety is a stupid one.

Go to firearm - M1 Garand.

Can usually be seen - Looking for a stock extender as the firearm I’m shooting is always too small.

Secretary, Deborah Sartori

Debbie is the Secretary of LHSC and a displaced 19th century wild west showgirl. Somehow she found herself at a University rifle club in the 21st century, took a look at the firearms available, and wasn’t impressed. Can often be heard saying things like “where is the smoke” and “real people shoot black powder”, or “why are we not shooting on horseback”. Very friendly though.

Debbie’s role in the club is to process applications and liaise with the police and make sure everything is legal and dandy.

(Debbie doesn’t understand this magic lightbox so this entry was written for her.)

Go to firearm - Somethin’ ol’.

Can usually be seen - Through a cloud of smoke.

Treasurer, James Hutton

I’m the club treasurer and am therefore in charge of all the clubs finances. I too began shooting through university and quickly developed a taste for old military rifles, with a particular fondness for rifles designed between the 1880’s and the 1940’s. I shoot left-handed, requiring some creativity in order to shoot any timed competitions with speed.

Go to Firearm - A very shortened Argentine Mauser 1891.

Can usually been seen - Languishing in the jungles of Indochina.

Quartermaster & FAC holder, Chris Crump

Hi, I’m Crump, holder of the Club FAC and quartermaster in charge of keeping and procuring club firearms and equipment. I started shooting at School and then with the Cadets, however it was at university I started to shoot historic rifles. That was also the start of my terrible affliction where I can’t stop buying historic firearms, today it’s Springfield 1903s and Ross MKIIIs but tomorrow it will be Jagdpanthers and Gustav guns. My particular interest is in First World War rifles however I do have soft spot for anything French.

Go to Firearm - Whatever my latest purchase is.

Can usually be seen - Trying to decide what rifle to shoot.
